Mistress Sirene,
While I am not an MD, but I do have a lot of education in the bioloical sciences field. Here is some info (with the help of Wikipedia) :
As far as ingesting feces, the main riska are : 1. Giardiasis - a disease caused by a protozoan. Symptoms include loss of appetite, lethargy, explosive diarrhea, loose or watery stool, stomach cramps, upset stomach, bloating, and flatulence. 2. Cryptosporidiosis - another parasitic disease that can cause very severe and deadly diarrhea. 3. Shigellosis - a form of dysentery, caused by the bacterium Shigella. Symptoms may range from mild abdominal discomfort to full-blown dysentery characterised by cramps, diarrhea, fever, vomiting, blood, pus, or mucus in stools or tenesmus. 4. Amoebiasis - Another kind of protozoan infectious disease. Symptoms are usually gastrointestinal including diarrhoea, vomiting, abdominal pain or discomfort and fever. 5. Campylobacter - is a type of Gram-negative bacteria. Diarrhea, cramps, abdominal pain, and fever develop within 2–5 days of pathogenic Campylobacter infection, and in most people, the illness lasts for 7–10 days. Infection can sometimes be fatal, and some (less than 1 in 1000 cases) individuals develop Guillain-Barré syndrome, in which the nerves that join the spinal cord and brain to the rest of the body are damaged, sometimes permanently.
Hope this helps,
Adam
