I'm not trying to jump into the middle of this conflict. But the idea that Sierra is just some person off the street coming in here doesn't make a lot of sense. She's arguably the most creative and innovative person in the scene now.
I find Sierra's ideas to be both compelling and disturbing. Or perhaps frightening is a better word. It's real SM, and that bothers a lot of people. It's not playing or pretending or a game. It's intense and disturbing stuff. Especially the stuff about Deryck, who seems to be involved in this conflict somehow. There are times when I wish I could be Deryck, but I don't have the strength, or the weakness, or whatever you want to call it. I'm afraid to let go.
Sierra has pretty much single-handedly invented financial domination. If you go to the money slaves section of Yahoo clubs, you'll see about 60 women who are imitating Sierra. In a couple of years there will probably be several hundred, maybe thousands. Most of the scene can't be attributed to anyone. I mean, who was the first woman who wore boots, or who tied guys up, or who used a cane? No one knows. Almost everyone here is devoted to enacting fantasies that are shared, they're taking on archetypical roles. Sierra is different -- she's created her own thing.
I honestly believe that she's changed the scene forever. Maybe not your particular piece of it, but if you take the big view, she has. I think that kinky people fifty years from now are going to be influenced by her, whether they know her name or not. I really can't think of anyone else who could make that claim, except for perhaps Terence Sellers. (I don't think Sierra makes that claim now -- it's something I'm saying, and I believe that it's true.)
Sierra has created something very powerful and original. Sometimes she'll post something on her site that makes you think -- she'll say it's all about making guys need to give her money, insetead of just demanding it. And so you sometimes see hints of what must be a pretty intense psychological analysis of what she's doing.
If you can say that there are any geniuses of SM at all, then I think you'd probably have to count Sierra as one of those geniuses. Again, she's created something very powerful and completely original. Like a lot of very creative people, she's probably going to get a lot of crap for what she's done. I suspect she'll be copied by women and villified by men who feel frightened or threatened by such effective sadism.
So to sum it all up, in my opinion Sierra is a towering figure in the scene, and should be given the respect that goes along with that. There is no one who has more of a right to be here.
Having said all of that, I think that Farah's response, in which she said that her page was supposed to use the Papyrus font, sounds plausible. If you don't know HTML, you might not know that if a font specification is badly coded in a HTML document, a browser that doesn't have access to the specific font requested will substitute a default font. That is indeed what's happening with Farah's page, and I imagine that a Papyrus font would probably change the look of the page very dramatically. I've looked at the HTML in both pages, and it's pretty obvious, to me at least, that Farah didn't literally copy the code from Sierra's site and edit it to insert her own text. I know that no one has accused her of that, I just wanted to say it.
As far as Deryck goes, I believe that fundamentally he's responsible for his own participation in the scene. I refuse to criticize a sadist for treating someone badly. If we take the position that sadists ought to be judged by conventional moral standards, then SM becomes impossible. Sierra is very up front about who she is and what she does, and as a reader of Sierra's web site, I know that the two of them have a long history together.
The documentation of Deryck's humiliation on Sierra's site is a kind of a sadistic masterpiece. I'm not going to criticize it.
